Myth: If I leave the country then I may not be able to come back
Truth: An individual can come back as many time as he or she wants if they have maintained proper immigration status while living in United States. Also, it’s preferable not required an individual has not broken any laws whatsoever. This is because Immigration is a federal law and if the individual has any history of violence, run in with law enforcement etc. at the state level then he or she may be required to explain what happened. This is not debarment but the chances of re-entry can be potentially hindered.
The very goal the non-profit organization intends to accomplish is empowering students with adequate knowledge so they never get in trouble simply out of ignorance. Many students are scared to complain or raise concern about the fraudulent employers for this very reason i.e. the students are scared if they complain it might go in the record and they may not be able to get back into USA after visiting their respective home country.
If it’s not the students fault, and he or she has done everything by the law, and possess adequate documentation to prove it does not impact their chances of re-entry. It’s in the best interest of the students to consult an immigration lawyer before leaving the country and have their contact information. Also, if you are scared you can let your attorney know the date of your re-entry and let them know to expect an emergency call if you had any troubles whatsoever. This way the individual adequately equipped with knowledge and help from the right resources.
